Wichita Falls Drunk Driving Hit and Run Accident Injures Two

Outcome: Two people injured.

Ryan Michael Howard, 30, was arrested by Wichita Falls PD and charged with intoxicated assault involving injury or death.  The accident happened at 9:27 p.m. on the 3500 block of Kell West.  Howard rear-ended a vehicle and injured the driver and passenger.  Howard fled the scene, got of the vehicle and started walking home with a head wound.

He was transported to the ER and then booked at Wichita County Jail.  Several empty and full beer bottles were found in his truck.  The driver of the other car has a broken arm.

It appears drunk driving and failure to control speed was the cause of the accident.

East Texas Man Injures Child When Driving Drunk

Outcome: Drunk Driver’s Child Injured.

Isec Gelindo Sanchez, 27 from Douglass, Texas, was arrested for drunk driving DWI.   The accident happened on FM 225 in Nacogdoches County, Texas.  His 2006 Dodge pick-up went off the road and flipped many times.  His two sons, 3 and 8, were in the truck.  The 8 year old received serious personal injuries.

Sanchez was arrested and charged with intoxicated assault with a vehicle.  He failed field sobriety tests.  Sanchez turned himself in to police and told newspeople he had 4 or 5 beers but was not drunk.   Sanchez and his two sons were driving to their grandfather’s birthday party.  His oldest son suffered a foot injury and has had three surgeries.

We see two potential causes of this accident and injuries.  Intoxication and possibly non-seat belt use or lack of booster child car seats.

Johnson County, Texas Worker Rescued from 700 Foot Cell Tower.

A worker suffering from heat exhaustion was rescued from a 700 foot cell phone tower in Johnson County, Texas.  The tower was located on County Road 19 @ Crowley.  The worker passed out from heat exhaustion.  The rescue took 6 hours and was taken to the hospital.  He was thrown I.V. bags and drank them for hydration during the rescue.

Outcome: Both drivers injured.

A woman from Mansfield, Texas was driving west on the eastbound lanes of I-30 @ Second Avenue.  Her car slammed head-on into a 18 wheeler tractor-trailer.  The 20 year old woman as seriously injured and taken to Baylor University Medical Center.  The truck driver has minor injuries.  A fuel spill had to be cleaned up by HAZMAT because the 18 wheeler jack-knifed.  The accident is under investigation.

Sherman, Texas Shredder Work Accident Injures Two

Two workers received serious personal injuries when a shredder fell on them.  Both men were injured when a part of a brush hog shredder fell on top of them.  Both were pinned underdeath the shredder for several minutes.

The accident happened on private property being mowed.  The property is located on Gage Road, north of State Highway 82.  One man was taken by hospital via ambulance and the other was careflighted to a Dallas area hospital.

Southmayd, Texas Fire Dept. investigated and said both men were trying to fix a problem with the schredder.  The problem was the wings of the schredder would not go down.

In Texas work injury cases, if the employer has workers compensation insurance, the employee must report the accident to the Texas Division of Workers Compensation.  Benefits may be given for lost wages and payment of medical bills and impairment.

A Euless man, riding his bicycle, has died from an accident injuries at John Peter Smith Hospital.  Paul Niccolai, 56, was killed while riding his bicycle  at 10950 S. Pipeline Road, five miles from his house.    The driver who hit Niccolai is a Euless man driving an Acura.

In 2009, there were 49 people killed in Texas on bikes that were involved in car accidents.  There were 128 killed in accidents in Fort Worth and Tarrant County, Texas.

Jeremy Graves of Lufkin, Texas is in critical condition at East Texas Medical Center Tyler after being ejected from his vehicle.  The accident took place on Denman Avenue at Tower Lane.  The car hit a culvert was airborne.  The accident happened at 8:00 a.m.  After becoming airborne, the car hit another part of the culvert and begal to roll.

There were no witnesses who saw the car leave the road.  One witness saw the car hit a road sign.  The car was a GMC Jimmy.  Mr. Graves was found 75 feet from his car.   Lufkin PD is investigating the accident and said Graves may not have been wearing his seat belt.   Mr. Graves is an aspiring rapper.

Two teenagers are dead and two are seriously injured from a rollover accident in Leonard, Fannin County, Texas.  The accident took place on FM 896 when driver Brandon Richards lost control of the vehicle, causing it to roll many times.  Alexandria Hilliard of Dodd City and Zachary Kelton of Ector were dead at the scene.  Brandon Richards and Briann Hilliard of Dodd City were taken to Parkland Hospital in Dallas via helicopter.    Residents near FM 896 have stated the road is narrow, hilly, and the cause of numerous death accidents.   Leonard PD and Texas DPS are still investigating the accident.

In 2009, there were 59,164 serious injury crashes and 3089 deaths from Texas car accidents, including 1227 run off the road crashes.  Deaths in rural areas from car accident was 1685, 54.5% of all traffic related deaths.
